What is the density of flame retardant and fireproof ABS
2023-05-06

To understand the density of flame retardant and fireproof ABS, the first requirement is to understand which type of flame retardant ABS to choose. Generally, flame retardant ABS uses two methods: ABS+flame retardant and PVC+ABS alloy to achieve the flame retardant effect of ABS. The density of flame retardant and fireproof ABS in these two methods ultimately depends on the density of flame retardant and PVC.

Let's take a look at ABS first. ABS plastic is a ternary copolymer of three monomers: acrylonitrile (A), butadiene (B), and styrene (S). The composition of these monomers can be freely changed to make various resin models. ABS has the respective characteristics of three components: A makes it resistant to solvent corrosion, high temperature, and a certain surface hardness; B makes it high toughness and ductility; S makes it have the production and processing characteristics of thermoplastic resin and improves electrical performance. Therefore, ABS plastic is a "tough, hard, and rigid" raw material that is easy to obtain, has good basic performance, is cheap, and is widely used in various fields. The density of ABS is around 1.05

Next, let's take a look at flame retardants. Flame retardants are functional additives for the flame retardancy of flammable polymers, mainly used in the flame retardant design of composite materials; There are various types of flame retardants, which can be divided into additive flame retardants and chemically reactive flame retardants according to their application methods.

Additive flame retardants are added to polymers through mechanical mixing to enhance their fire resistance. Chemical reactive flame retardants are monomers that participate in polymerization reactions, promoting the flame retardancy of the polymer itself. The density of flame retardants is not very accurate depending on the variety, and can generally refer to 1.4-1.5.
